The MNHA is proud to present a unique exhibition produced in close collaboration with the "Campo della Fiera" non-profit association, the Orvieto Savings Bank Foundation, the Umbrian Government Department for Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, the Pôle Muséal of Umbria, and with the support of the Italian Embassy in Luxembourg and the contribution of Assicurazioni Generali.
This project presents the spectacular results of excavations carried out since 2000 under the direction of Professor Simonetta Stopponi at a site known as Campo della Fiera, a plain below the City of Orvieto. They have uncovered a spectacular archaeological complex spanning over five hectares and encompassing several temples, a "Via Sacra", or sacred road, and a large expanse reserved for offerings to the gods.
It is without the shadow of a doubt the famous Fanum Voltumnae described in ancient sources: the great pan-Etruscan sanctuary of the league of the twelve major Etruscan cities.
Archaeological structures and innumerable objects (statuettes, terracottas, reliefs, ceramics ...) invite visitors to plunge into the cultural, religious and aesthetic universe of the Etruscans, who in many ways remain a mysterious people.
