On 25 April 1974, the Carnation Revolution marked the beginning of democracy in Portugal. The Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart is staging a temporary exhibition in April 2024 to mark the 50th anniversary of this landmark event, which is an integral part of the histories of many citizens in Luxembourg.
The museum is looking for witnesses of the Carnation Revolution who are willing to share their stories in so far as they connect with the Grand Duchy. In addition to oral histories, we are also looking for objects linked to the uprising of 25 April 1974, to the wars of independence of the Portuguese colonies (e.g. army uniforms), or for items that document relations between Luxembourg and Portugal in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
Did you witness the demonstrations of May 1974 first hand? Did you live through the Portuguese dictatorship until it was overthrown? Did you or your family come to Luxembourg from Portugal in the 1960s or 1970s for political reasons? Help us illustrate your story through old passports, posters, correspondence, oral testimonies and other objects. Feel free to email us with photo(s): email hidden; JavaScript is required.
