The overthrow of the dictatorship in Portugal, seen from a Luxembourg perspective, is at the heart of a major exhibition that the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart will open on 25 April 2024, exactly fifty years after the Carnation Revolution.
In the run-up to the exhibition, the museum is organising a convivial evening to meet and talk to anyone who had a close experience of this turning point in history, or who would like to talk about the period of the Salarazist dictatorship or the colonial wars waged by the Estado Novo in Africa. Today, there are more than 100,000 people in Luxembourg whose lives have been shaped by these events (people of various nationalities and origins, from Portugal or the former Portuguese colonies). People who immigrated to the Grand Duchy in large numbers in the 60s and 70s, when Portugal was still under the yoke of dictatorship or, following 25 April 1974, entering a democratic process.
The curators of the exhibition symbolically invite you to meet them on 5 October, Portugal's Republic Day. Come and meet them, and bring along your memorabilia to talk about the extent to which your contribution, material and/or oral, could contribute to this ambitious museum project.
