Régis Moes explores certain aspects of Luxembourg's colonial past, such as the country's presence around the world during the colonial era.

The aim is to address some new aspects of recent historical research on Luxembourg's colonial history, while recalling the general context of the 'colonial globalisation' in which Luxembourgers participated. In addition to the exhibition, the conference explores certain aspects of Luxembourg's colonial past, such as the presence of Luxembourgers throughout the world during the colonial period, but also the presence of colonialism in Luxembourg. Migration of Luxembourgers to overseas in the 19th century, soldiers in colonial armies, colonial economic relations and the specific case of Luxembourgers in the Belgian Congo will be at the heart of the talk. We will also see how these colonial migrations had a reflection on society in the Grand Duchy itself and how mentalities were shaped, sometimes explicitly, sometimes implicitly, by the colonial reality (through publicity, official events, the efforts of Catholic missionaries, etc.). It will thus become clear that, like all other Western European countries, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has a colonial past.
