We have a new name - Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart! Rooted in collective memory, our new name strengthens our identity as a museum and underlines the unique nature of our collection.
Little known fact: up until now, the acronym MNHA (Musée national d’histoire et d’art) could refer both to the cultural institute and the museum on the Marché-aux-Poissons. With the recent change in the law on the reorganisation of the state cultural institutes, we renamed these two entities for the sake of clarity.
We added an A for archaeology – a heavy hitter in our collection – to the abbreviation MNHA to refer to the institute, which is now called the Musée national d’archéologie, d’histoire et d’art (MNAHA). As for the museum itself, we went with a name that people have always used in Luxembourg, namely the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart.

The Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart is home to a wealth of objects and artworks, from precious historical artefacts and an extensive coin collection through to a carefully curated selection of decorative and fine art. The museum covers the three key areas featured in our new logo: archaeology, history and art. The permanent collection is free to visit any time.

Our new logo draws inspiration from the museum’s iconic architecture, in particular the ramps that connect the different levels within the main building, prompting visitors to quite literally descend into history, from prehistoric times through to the present day. The strong visual element of the logo, which can also be read as a tilted M, echoes this deep dive into history and culture, offering multiple avenues of exploration.
