This two sessions-workshop will explore Erwin Olaf and Edward Steichen’s photographs and Hans Op de Beeck’s sculptures and watercolours. In the first session, we will visit the exhibition, immerse ourselves in the artists’ mystical landscapes and portraits and draw direct inspiration from this world. We will then stage photographs that reference these works and participants will learn various lighting techniques. They can also use different found objects to convey their vision. The photos will be black and white in keeping with the mood of the exhibition.

In the second session, participants will use the prints from the photo session to complete their artwork, painting the landscape around the staged pictures with watercolours. These paintings will also be done in black and white and consist of layers of mountains, foliage, water, mist etc. The finished result will be a mystical dreamlike landscape based on staged photographs – a perfect union of the two mediums.
