On the choices of framing and reframing paintings

Many paintings have been reframed during their lifetime. When the original framing of a painting is sadly lost, how do we settle on a new frame today? Such decisions require us to delicately balance between esthetics with art historical information, best based on research.

In this participative lecture Huub Baija discusses these issues using several examples from the MNHA’s collection to illustrate how much the frame influences our experience of a painting.
