In 1970, at the age of thirty-four, Arthur Unger met Michel Tapié at the Galerie Stadler in Paris. Tapié was then one of the most influential art critics and artistic advisors on the French and international art scene. And with good reason: he was at the origin of the term "Art Informel", which he theorised in his most famous work: Un art autre où de nouveaux dévidages du réel (1952), which he has continued to defend on every continent ever since. His meeting with Tapié proved decisive for Unger's artistic career. The friendship and collaboration that followed contributed to the re-recognition of his work and the strengthening of his position on the international art scene.
