The Carnation Revolution is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. A major event in the history of the twentieth century, not only for Portugal but also on a global scale. Its complex history remains relatively unknown, although saturated with images and memories. The foundation of Portuguese democracy is now the subject of renewed analysis. A specialist in the contemporary history of Portugal, Yves Léonard (SciencesPo, Paris), has recently published Sous les oeillets la révolution (Chandeigne 2023) and a biography of Salazar Le dictateur énigmatique (Perrin, 2024).
