Talk

with Vera Herold, cultural critic

Price

The creative explosion in Portugal’s cultural production that followed the revolution’s freedom produced works that reflect both utopian spirit and the violence of the dictatorship and the colonial war. Later works look back on the memories of this time. Their variety and complexity complement, sometimes contradict historiographic narratives, collective cultural memory or the clichés of entertainment culture. Using literary, visual and musical examples, this talk is an enquiry into the memories of Portugal’s democratisation process.
